Bryan Elwood

Bryan A. Elwood is a legal and compliance leader with a career spanning over three decades, during which he navigated and resolved complex challenges in international trade, corporate governance, and global regulation.

Prior to joining BBA Deals and Disputes, he was Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer (GC/CCO) of Tricon Energy, the world's second-largest petrochemicals and polymers distribution company, with $13 billion in revenues. At Tricon, he built the legal and compliance function from the ground up, positioning the company as one of the strongest players in the global chemicals industry.  Under his leadership, the company’s compliance system earned a Platinum rating (Top 1%) from EcoVadis, the world’s largest ESG rating organization.

His expertise covers full legal and compliance management of over 40 global entities, major corporate restructuring of the group, leading responses to major crisis events, managing government and internal investigations and resolving hundreds of international disputes. He is an expert in the laws pertaining to market access ranging from customs, sanctions, export controls and anti-corruption to maritime, antitrust and intellectual property matters impacting international trade.

Before his senior-executive role, Bryan practiced with Am Law 100 law firms, representing international clients when their products became unfairly blocked out of foreign markets. His private practice expands to the areas of customs, unfair trade practices, intellectual property, sanctions, labeling and consumer product safety.

In his public service career Bryan was a Diplomat and Chief International Trade Counsel at the Embassy of Mexico in the U.S.  He participated in negotiating Mexico’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, as its first developing country in the group) and was a member of Mexico’s North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiation team. Bryan was appointed by all three NAFTA governments to the Chapter 19 roster of experts eligible to adjudicate bilateral unfair-trade disputes and served as a Trade Capacity Building consultant for the Organization of American States (OAS). 

Bryan has a Law Degree from Universidad Iberoamericana and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. He is 100% fluent in English and Spanish.  He is admitted to practice in New York, Texas, Mexico and the U.S. Court of International Trade.
